Where I Read It: The Sickness

Where I Read It: The Sickness

Some books feel like a bold choice depending on where you read them.

This was one of those.

⚓ The Setting

I read The Sickness while on a cruise to Bermuda.

Which… if you think about it…

might not have been the most comforting setting for that kind of story 😅

But at the same time?

It made the experience even more unforgettable.

🌊 Life at Sea

There’s something about being on a cruise that feels completely different from everyday life.

You’re surrounded by water.Disconnected from routine.Living in a space that feels both exciting and unfamiliar.

Time slows down…

But your awareness of everything around you increases.

📖 The Book

The Sickness isn’t a light read.

It pulls you in with tension.Keeps you slightly on edge. And leaves you thinking long after you’ve put it down.

The kind of book that makes you look up every now and then…

Just to remind yourself where you are.

💭 When the Setting Adds to the Story

And that’s exactly what happened.

Because reading something intense…

while being in the middle of the ocean…

adds a whole different layer to the experience.

The movement of the ship. The unfamiliar environment. The feeling of being away from everything normal.

It all blends together.

And suddenly…

The story doesn’t feel so distant anymore.

✨ That Slightly Unsettling Feeling

There were moments where I had to pause.

Not because I didn’t want to keep reading…

But because I became so aware of my surroundings.

And honestly?

That’s part of what made it so memorable.

🌊 Travel Changes Everything

This is something I keep coming back to.

Where you are matters.

It shapes how you experience things. How you process them. How they stay with you.

Reading this book at home?

Would have been one thing.

But reading it at sea…

It made everything feel more intense.

More real.

💙 Why This One Stuck

Now when I think about The Sickness

I don’t just think about the story.

I think about:

  • The open ocean

  • The feeling of being away from everything familiar

  • That slightly uneasy energy

  • And how it all blended together

🌊 Where the Journey Meets the Story

That’s what this series is about.

Because sometimes…

The setting doesn’t just complement the story.

It amplifies it.

And that’s when it becomes unforgettable.

💙

💬 Let’s Talk

Would you read a suspenseful or intense book while on a cruise…

Or would that make it a little too real? 😅
